Climate change threatens air quality

After years of dependence upon fuels for our requirements that throw a heavy amount of chemicals into the atmosphere, we can find ourselves completely draped in dirty air. The emission of huge amount of gases into the atmosphere called the ‘Green house gases’ are causing a climate disruption. These gases warm up earth’s surface temperature and are causing a major alteration in global climate.

Climate change and air quality are closely coupled. Processes such as fossil fuel burning causes emission of wide range of pollutants including particulate matter, ozone, the key ingredients of smog, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, volatile organic compounds and carbon monoxide. The same processes also release greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, Methane, nitrous oxide etc.Climate change has a direct impact on air quality. Most of the actions needed to reduce the emission of green house gases will also reduce air pollution. In order to avoid worsening the associated health problems, indoor air quality has to be purified.
