Pollution-Depression Link

The link between air pollution and respiratory diseases is well known, but foul air may be causing cases of depression too. Scientists are increasingly seeing links between air pollution and the mind.
Studies have found that suicides and attempted suicides increase as levels of air pollution rise. This is because of the inflammatory effects of air pollution on body and mind. Even masks and may not be very effective in addressing the scale of the problem, and the strategy should be to bring down air pollution in cities. Masks work only when they are fixed professionally. It also depends on the kind of mask being used. N 95 (a type of mask) may be effective if it's worn properly without any gaps.

Prolonged exposure to high levels of pollutants can cause lung cancer and heart disease, but short-term exposure, for instance at traffic junctions, can trigger stroke or chronic asthma.  Air pollution is affecting or leading to almost all the major conditions. It can be responsible for developing heart disease and triggering a heart attack, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer. We are also seeing a very strong link between infections and air pollution. It is more difficult for our bodies to fight infection. Ear infections are very common, especially among young children; they start as respiratory infection and move to the ears.

They are even seeing links between air pollution and diabetes, premature births and anxiety. These are all part of inflammation caused by air pollution. There are studies showing that when air pollution peaks, the incidence of suicide rises. The problem is, pollution particles are not living things like bacteria that can be killed. He added that pollution particles may be carriers of proteins that trigger allergies.

“WORLD’S THIRD LARGEST ECONOMY NEEDS CLEANER AIR”

“WORLD’S THIRD LARGEST ECONOMY NEEDS CLEANER AIR”

Introduction
India being the world’s third largest economy has been among the fastest growing economies in the last two decades. The development is at crossroads. For a developing economy like India, the developmental path has always been erratic. One of the greatest challenges has been to reduce air pollution that has also led to sufficient legal interventions in mandating strong clean air measures. The concept of human rights came into picture right after independence but the concept of clean environment has never been a priority. However, if we talk about today’s evolving human arena, this concept is emerging as a hot debatable topic.

According to Article 21 of the constitution, “Environment and life are interrelated and the existence of life on earth depends on the harmonious relationship between ecosystem and environment.”

Overpopulation2.jpgToo many people, too few resources:
Text Box: Fig.1: Showing too many people, too little resourcesWhile the resources are getting depleted, the number of people using these resources is increasing rapidly. But the number getting increased is not the real problem. The problem is how these resources are getting distributed and used.

Air pollution and the economy
The health, environmental, and economic impacts of air pollution are significant. Each day, air pollution causes thousands of illnesses like cardio vascular diseases and metastasis sickness leading to lost days at work. Air pollutants that are inhaled have serious impact on human health affecting the lungs and the respiratory system. They are also taken up by the blood and pumped all round the body. Far beyond the runny nose or persistent cough, breathing in the toxins, ozone, and particulates of polluted air can damage your body's immune system. This leaves the door open for rashes and skin infections, eye diseases, illnesses (such as asthma, bronchitis, and pneumonia), brain and nerve damage, as well as several different types of cancers.

Need of the hour:
With the growth of civilized society, men have become more and more materialistic and have lost the sight to protect his environment. It is quite clear that the air we breathe in affects our health directly.
Economic development without environmental considerations can cause serious environmental damage affecting the quality of life of the population, both present and future. The reason that India is struggling with air pollution is because the sources are numerous and closely linked to economic activity. To become sustainable, we need to meet the daily needs of the people without compromising with the needs of the future generations. Although a lot of acts and regulations have been passed out in this regard but nothing fruitful has come up. A cleaner air to breathe in is the foremost necessity and requirement for the health and safety of mankind. The challenge here lies in utilizing resources in an optimum way so that cleaner air could be affordable to everyone at low cost since a lot couldn’t be spent on medical treatments.

Bottom line:

There is a growing need to develop air purification systems which need to make sure that the economic value could be considered while having a cleaner environment. With a vision to grow a business whilst reducing the environmental impact of the operations and increasing positive social impact, Magneto Environmental Grouppe has been working since 1980. The objective is to improve human lifestyle and comfort by offering innovative products and reliable services with a wide range of Air Purifiers to make the environment around us safer, greener and cost efficient while reaping health benefits.

Doctor’s respond to thousands of Patients.

It’s a fact that we spend 90% of our time indoors and the indoor air certainly is 10 to 15 times more polluted than outdoors. Our home brings the outdoor air inside, which is already contaminated. We do a lot of activities inside our homes like spraying hair, using air fresheners, frying food, burning candles and cleaning using chemicals, which adds on additional pollution inside. A lot of this pollution remains inside sealed if your homes are not properly ventilated.
Among the potential environmental contributors for diseases, air pollution is the most critical one. Doctors respond to thousands of patient’s queries daily with long unexplainable diseases to which they have no answer.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it is not solely the chronic diseases about which we need to worry about. Particulate matter is a great matter of concern these days since it is related to premature death in individuals with heart or respiratory organ illness, heart attacks, irregular heartbeat, aggravated respiratory illness, decreased lung function and increase respiratory symptoms. In 2012, World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that 2.6 million individuals died due to poor indoor air quality

By having closed homes, we are reducing our energy value, however increasing our health issues. Wake up; if you are facing any fatal symptoms, this is the right time to check your indoor air quality. Refer to Magneto’s new age active air purification technologies including Cold Plasma Technology (CPT)  &  Photo Hydro Ionized Oxidation (PHIO+) for healthy Air Purification.

Exposure to Air pollution:- ‘A cause of Autism and Schizophrenia’

Exposure to ambient air pollution is a serious and common public health concern associated with growing morbidity and mortality worldwide. In the last decades, the adverse effects of air pollution on the pulmonary and cardiovascular systems have been well established.
Recently, a new study from the University of Rochester Medical Center describes how exposure to air pollution early in life produces neurological disorder in the brain, including an enlargement of part of the brain that is seen in humans having autism and schizophrenia. It explains the elevated levels of glutamate, a neurotransmitter. Such children demonstrate traits like abnormal behavior patterns, restricted social behavior and impaired verbal communication.

When air particulate matter and their components such as metals are inhaled or swallowed, they pass through damaged barriers including the blood-brain barriers leading to long-lasting harmful effects.

There are a range of interventions that could be used for improving air quality standards in your buildings like opting for proper heating, ventilating, air-conditioning (HVAC) system designed with filters with a minimum efficiency reporting value. Also, Quality IEQ through Good Design, Construction, Renovation and O&M Practices taking care of the standards that should at least meet or exceed ASHRAE Standard 62.1: Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality for reducing humidity indoors.

Climate change threatens air quality

After years of dependence upon fuels for our requirements that throw a heavy amount of chemicals into the atmosphere, we can find ourselves completely draped in dirty air. The emission of huge amount of gases into the atmosphere called the ‘Green house gases’ are causing a climate disruption. These gases warm up earth’s surface temperature and are causing a major alteration in global climate.
Climate change and air quality are closely coupled. Processes such as fossil fuel burning causes emission of wide range of pollutants including particulate matter, ozone, the key ingredients of smog, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, volatile organic compounds and carbon monoxideThe same processes also release greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, Methane, nitrous oxide etc.Climate change has a direct impact on air quality. Most of the actions needed to reduce the emission of green house gases will also reduce air pollution. In order to avoid worsening the associated health problems, indoor air quality has to be purified. Magneto Environmental Grouppe’s Cold plasma technology (CPT) and Photo Hydro Ionized Oxidation (PHIO+)are the new age purification technologies that purify the air as well as surfaces.
